about

WET PAINT is a new collection of songs by Lyndon Blue, written and recorded quickly in heady conditions. The seven layered and volatile tracks are percolated with bushfire smog, hand sanitiser and stormwater runoff, building on the leftfield songwriting of 2018’s ‘Warm Corona’ EP but offering still more twists in the tale. From the dreamy domestic swirls of ‘Wet Paint Pt 1’ and ‘I Need A Window’ to the ratty post-punk of ‘Wet Paint Pt 2,’ ‘Hold Music’ and ‘Room For Jack,’ the common denominator here is a sense of playful experimentation - heightened by lush arrangements that include Melbourne stalwart Liam ‘Snowy’ Halliwell on saxophone and Perth jazz/DIY all-rounder Daniel Harrison on drums. Truer to Blue’s pop-hook tendencies are two upbeat cyborg singles: between the melodic, deep-fried disco of ‘Weird Horizon’ and the snowballing synthetic groove of ‘Little Scroll,’ Weymouth/Frantz-style rhythms are put through a futuristic wringer, gazing into the apocalypse with a mood that’s both neurotic and joyfully unrestrained.

"...An artist who resides comfortably in the outsider pop umbrella, Blue makes Wet Paint a fantastic, nostalgic experience that settles well in its entirety rather than as individual tracks, and only gets better with each listen."
- Tom Haugen, Daily Vault
